The Importance of Obedience / Mitchell S Hutchins / GeneralWeekly Devotional for Bulletin / Obedience; Faith; Love / John 8:31–32

The New International Version (1984) The Children of Abraham

31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you

hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then

you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

This scripture begins with "to those who have believed",

what does this mean? To those who believed what? Jesus

is referring to those who believe in Him. Then He says if

you “hold to my teaching,” this could be interpreted as if

you obey what I taught you, then you really become my

disciples and after truly becoming my disciple then you

will know the truth.

Well what, or who, is the truth? Jesus also said, I am the

way, the Truth, and the Life. So what He is saying is that

the more we obey His teaching, the Bible, the more we

know Him.

In another scripture, John 14:16 Jesus said, if you love Me,

you will keep my commands. So the Lord seems to want us

to know Him more by obeying Him more.
